What Is 6011 Aluminum?

6011 aluminum is a 6xxx-series heat-treatable sheet alloy similar in concept to 6010 but tuned for a slightly higher strength-to-formability balance. It strengthens through the magnesium-silicide (Mg2Si) precipitation system and is used for formed structural parts in automotive and transport.

Mechanical Properties by Temper

Temper Tensile (MPa) Yield (MPa) Elongation (%)
T4 290 min 140 min 22 min
T6 340 min 290 min 10 min

Values are typical minimums for sheet per ASTM B209 / EN 485-2 and depend on thickness. T5 is also produced for some extruded and formed applications.

Temper Selection Guide

T4 is the forming condition, used where parts are shaped before aging.

T6 delivers the highest strength for structural members and brackets.

T5 offers a production-friendly aged condition for moderate-strength parts.

Key Characteristics

Strength and formability

6011 holds a good balance, letting factories form parts yet reach meaningful strength after aging.

Corrosion resistance

Good general resistance suitable for automotive and transport exposure.

Weldability

Weldable by MIG/TIG; allow for heat-affected-zone softening in design.

Applications

  • Automotive structural parts (pillars, beams)
  • Truck and trailer bodies
  • Railway vehicle structures
  • Welded frames and brackets
  • General structural sheet fabrication

Processing & Surface Finish Notes

6011 is typically formed in T4 and aged afterward. Welding uses 4043/5356 filler with allowance for HAZ softening. It machines and laser-cuts cleanly in T6.

Quality Documents & Inspection

  • Mill Test Certificate (MTC): supplied with every order, reporting actual chemistry and mechanical properties of the delivered lot.
  • Dimension and visual inspection: size, flatness, surface, and edge condition are checked against the agreed specification.
  • Third-party inspection: SGS or equivalent reports can be arranged on request for specific orders.
  • Certifications: ISO 9001 (quality), ISO 14001 (environment), ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety).

Why Choose Linsy for 6011 Aluminum

Linsy Aluminum operates a production base with more than 20 years of experience in rolled and extruded aluminum products across the 1000 to 8000 series. We support buyers with cut-to-size service, CNC machining, laser cutting, and surface finishing (anodizing, polishing, brushing) under one roof.

Every order ships with a mill test certificate (MTC) documenting chemistry and mechanical properties. Our quality system is certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001. Third-party inspection reports (for example SGS) can be arranged on request for specific orders.

We work to ASTM, EN, GB, and JIS specifications and supply customers in Europe, Asia, and other regions. Tell us your form, temper, and dimension requirements and we will return a quotation with lead time.

6011 Aluminum FAQ

6011 vs 6010?

6011 carries a bit more magnesium for higher strength while keeping good formability; 6010 is the slightly softer, very formable option.

Is 6011 available as wire?

6011 is a sheet/plate grade. Welding wire for 6xxx joints is normally 4043 or 5356.

What standard covers 6011 sheet?

Supplied to ASTM B209 or EN 485-2 (EN AW-6011) depending on the destination market.

General Ordering FAQ

What is the minimum order quantity?

Minimum order quantities depend on the form and temper. For common sheet, plate, and extrusion sizes we can often accept small lots; custom sizes and tempers are quoted per request. Contact us with your bill of materials for a firm MOQ.

What lead time can I expect?

For stock or regularly produced sizes, typical lead time is 10 to 60 days depending on quantity, temper, and any additional processing. Custom or rarely ordered specs may take longer; we confirm the date in the quotation.

Do you provide mill test certificates?

Yes. Every shipment includes an MTC reporting the actual chemistry and mechanical results for the supplied lot. SGS or other third-party inspection reports can be arranged when needed.

Can you cut to size or add processing?

Yes. We offer cut-to-length, precision sawing, CNC machining, laser cutting, and surface finishing (anodizing, polishing, brushing) so the material arrives closer to your finished part.

Which standards do you supply to?

We regularly work to ASTM, EN, GB, and JIS specifications. If your project references a specific standard or designation, mention it in the RFQ so we match the requirement.

How do I request a quote?

Send your alloy, temper, form, dimensions, quantity, and required standard. We return a quotation with pricing, lead time, and the inspection documents included.
