6262 Aluminum Alloy

6262 aluminum is a heat-treatable, free-machining alloy in the 6000 series, engineered for screw machine products that need tolerances and surface finish close to brass. Small lead and bismuth additions give it outstanding machinability while keeping good corrosion resistance and a clean anodized finish. Linsy supplies 6262 in bar, tube, sheet, coil, and wire with common tempers O, T6, T6511, and T9.

Available forms: sheet / coil, tube, bar / rod, wire
Common tempers: T6, T6511, T9, O
Processing support: CNC machining, laser cutting, TIG/MIG welding, anodizing, polishing, powder coating
Quality documents: MTC report with every order

What Is 6262 Aluminum?

6262 is a variant of 6061 with controlled lead and bismuth to improve chip break-up during high-speed machining. It is used where large volumes of precision parts are produced on automatic screw machines, such as hydraulic fittings, connectors, and fasteners. Strength is comparable to 6061, and it anodizes attractively, which makes it popular for visible architectural and automotive hardware.

Temper Selection Guide

T6 / T6511

Most common supply temper. Good strength with the best machinability and a clean anodized surface.

T9

Cold worked plus aged for higher strength in demanding fasteners and fittings.

O

Annealed for maximum formability when heavy bending or forming precedes machining.

Key Characteristics

Free machinability

Lead and bismuth additions produce short, manageable chips at high cutting speeds, close to free-machining brass.

Anodizing ability

Takes a uniform, attractive anodized finish for visible hardware.

Moderate strength

Comparable to 6061 after heat treatment.

Corrosion resistance

Suitable for marine and industrial atmospheres when properly finished.

Applications

  • Precision-machined parts
  • Screw machine products
  • Hydraulic fittings and connectors
  • Automotive components
  • Marine hardware
  • Aerospace secondary parts

Processing & Surface Finish Notes

6262 is one of the best aluminum alloys for CNC turning and milling thanks to its chip control. Note that lead and bismuth reduce weldability, so welding is not recommended for structural joints; mechanical fastening is preferred. Anodizing (decorative or hard) and polishing are standard finishes. Observe appropriate dust control during machining because of the lead content.

Quality Documents & Inspection

Every order ships with a Mill Test Certificate (MTC) recording composition and mechanical results. Our quality system is certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001. Third-party SGS test reports can be arranged on request. Inspection covers dimensions, surface condition, and mechanical verification by temper.

6262 Aluminum FAQ

How does 6262 compare to 6061 for machining?

6262 machines noticeably better than 6061 because of its lead and bismuth content, with chips that break cleanly. Strength is similar after the same temper.

Can 6262 be anodized?

Yes. It anodizes to a clean, uniform finish, which is why it is used for visible architectural and automotive hardware. Lead/bismuth can slightly affect very heavy decorative coatings, so confirm finish requirements.

Is 6262 weldable?

Weldability is poor because lead and bismuth lower weld integrity. Use mechanical fastening for structural assemblies rather than welding.

General Ordering FAQ

What is the typical lead time for custom aluminum orders?

Custom sizes and tempers usually ship within 10 to 60 days. Confirm the exact window when you request a quote, as it depends on alloy, temper, dimensions, and order quantity.

What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ)?

MOQ is flexible and reviewed case by case. Small lots and prototypes can often be accommodated; larger or standard runs are more economical. Share your required dimensions and quantity for a firm quote.

Which quality documents come with the order?

Every order ships with a Mill Test Certificate (MTC). ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certifications apply to our management system. SGS third-party test reports can be arranged on request.

Can you cut, machine, or finish the material before shipping?

Yes. We provide CNC machining, laser cutting, TIG/MIG welding, and surface treatments including anodizing, polishing, powder coating, and PVC film protection.

How do I request a quote?

Send your alloy/temper, required form, dimensions, quantity, and any processing or certificate requirements. Our team returns a quote with lead time and shipping terms.
