Mechanical Properties by Temper

Temper Tensile Strength (MPa) Yield Strength (MPa) Elongation (%)
F (as-cast) ~170 ~95 ~2
T4 ~210 ~110 ~3
T6 ~250 ~165 ~2
Values shown are typical for the T6 condition and should be confirmed against the mill certificate for a specific casting.

Physical & Thermal Properties (Typical, T6)

Property Value
Density 2.79 g/cm³
Melting range 516 – 604 °C
Thermal conductivity 109 W/m·°C
Shear strength (T6) ~152 MPa

Temper Selection Guide

F (as-cast) is used where no heat treatment is required. T4 (solution + natural age) improves strength and ductility. T5 (artificial age only) gives moderate strength with good dimensional stability. T6 (solution + artificial age) is the most common choice for maximum strength. Select the temper based on the mechanical and thermal demands of the final part.

Key Characteristics of A319

Castability

The silicon content delivers good fluidity and low shrinkage, making the alloy suitable for complex thin-wall castings.

Strength & Hardness

Copper additions raise strength and hardness relative to lower-copper casting grades, supporting structural and wear-facing applications.

Corrosion & Weldability

The alloy offers fair corrosion resistance. Welding is possible but should be specified with engineering review; post-weld heat treatment may be needed to recover properties.

Common Applications

  • Automotive and truck engine and transmission housings
  • General industrial castings and brackets
  • Pump and valve bodies
  • Structural and decorative cast components

Processing & Surface Finish Notes

A319 Aluminum Casting Alloy is normally supplied as ingot/billet or as cast components. Machining is straightforward in the T5/T6 condition. Surface treatments such as anodizing are limited by the high silicon content and should be evaluated case by case. Dimensional and NDT inspection can be arranged to drawing.

Quality Documents & Inspection

Every order ships with an MTC reporting chemical analysis and mechanical results for the lot. Additional inspection such as X-ray, dye penetrant, or pressure testing can be arranged on request.

A319 Aluminum Casting Alloy FAQ

What is A319 used for?

A319 is a general-purpose Al-Si-Cu casting alloy used for automotive and industrial castings where good strength and castability are needed.

Can A319 be heat treated?

Yes. It is commonly supplied in the T5 or T6 condition to improve strength and hardness; the right temper depends on the part’s service requirements.

Is A319 the same as 319.0 or A380?

No. A319.0 is one variant of the 319 family. A380 has higher silicon and different copper limits; always confirm the exact designation on the mill certificate.

General Ordering FAQ

What is the typical lead time?

Lead times generally range from 10 to 60 days depending on alloy, form, and quantity. Confirm with your quote.

Do you provide mill certificates?

Yes. An MTC is supplied with every order, and additional inspection can be arranged on request.

Can castings be customized?

Yes. We produce ingot, billet, and cast components to customer drawings and specifications.
