Processing support: cut-to-length / CNC / anodizing / polishing
Quality documents: MTC report with every order

What Is 6062 Aluminum Alloy?

6062 is a 6000-series, heat-treatable alloy closely related to 6061. Its balanced magnesium-silicon chemistry gives good strength after heat treatment while remaining easy to form and weld. It is often selected where a clean, consistent anodized finish is required.

Mechanical Properties by Temper

The values below are typical room-temperature properties for 6061 and are representative of extruded, drawn, or rolled product. Exact numbers vary with section size and product form; final inspection is reported on the MTC.

Temper Tensile Strength (MPa) Yield Strength (MPa) Elongation (%) Brinell Hardness (HB)
O 124 55 25 30
T4 241 145 22 65
T6 310 276 12 95
T651 310 276 12 95

Temper Selection Guide

  • O: softened condition for forming and welding.
  • T4: solution heat-treated and naturally aged; good formability.
  • T6 / T651: artificially aged for maximum strength and dimensional stability.

Key Characteristics

Anodizing Response

6062 is valued for a clean, uniform anodized appearance, which supports architectural and decorative use.

Formability and Weldability

It forms and welds readily, making it practical for complex fabricated shapes.

Corrosion Resistance

Good general resistance in atmospheric and mild industrial environments.

Applications

  • Architectural and decorative structures
  • Marine and boat fittings
  • Automotive and truck bodies
  • Structural frames and pipework
  • Anodized trim and railings

Processing & Surface Finish Notes

  • Forming: O and T4 form most easily; observe minimum bend radii.
  • Welding: TIG/MIG with 4043 or 5356 filler; allow for local softening.
  • Anodizing: prepare surfaces carefully for a consistent finish.

Quality Documents & Inspection

  • Mill Test Certificate (MTC): every shipment includes an MTC reporting chemical analysis and mechanical results against the ordered specification.
  • Inspection: dimensional checks, visual surface inspection, and mechanical sampling are carried out before dispatch.
  • Standards: material can be supplied to ASTM, EN, GB/T, or JIS requirements on request.
  • Third-party testing: SGS or other nominated laboratory reports can be arranged when required by the project.

6062 Aluminum FAQ

How does 6062 differ from 6061?

The two alloys share very similar chemistry and properties; 6062 is often chosen where a particularly consistent anodized surface is important.

Is 6062 weldable?

Yes. It welds well with standard aluminum processes, using 4043 or 5356 filler depending on the service condition.

What tempers are available?

6062 is typically supplied in O, T4, T6, and T651; confirm availability for your required form.

General Ordering FAQ

What is the typical lead time?

Standard stock sizes are usually dispatched within 10 – 60 days depending on temper, form, and finishing. Custom-cut or specially heat-treated material is confirmed at quotation.

Do you provide mill certificates?

Yes. An MTC is supplied with every order, and third-party test reports (for example SGS) can be arranged on request.

Which standards can you supply to?

We can work to ASTM, EN, GB/T, JIS, and customer-specific drawings. Please share the required standard when requesting a quote.

Can material be cut or machined before shipping?

Yes. Cutting-to-length, CNC machining, and basic fabrication are available; discuss your requirements when ordering.
