What Is 7475 Aluminum?

7475 is a high-strength 7xxx alloy engineered specifically for superior toughness and fracture resistance, even in thicker sections. Commonly supplied in T761 temper for aircraft fuselage and wing skins, it is the preferred choice for critical structures where both strength and durability matter. Linsy supplies 7475 sheet, plate, bar and tube with full MTC documentation. Its high zinc content gives an outstanding strength-to-toughness combination, making it a staple for aircraft skins and bulkheads.

Mechanical Properties by Temper

Typical T761 values (converted from source KSI): tensile ≈ 524 MPa (76 ksi), yield ≈ 441 MPa (64 ksi), elongation ≈ 12%, shear ≈ 317 MPa (46 ksi). Confirm against the MTC for your form and thickness.

Temper Temper Tensile (MPa) Yield (MPa) Elong. (%)
T761 ≈ 524 ≈ 441 ≈ 12
T7351 ≈ 510 ≈ 425 ≈ 12

Temper Selection Guide

T761 — peak combination of strength and toughness for skins and structural plate. T7351 — improved stress-corrosion resistance. Both are overaged; not weld-friendly.

Key Characteristics

Superior Toughness

Among the toughest 7xxx grades for thick sections.

Excellent Fatigue Resistance

Suited to cyclic-load aircraft skins.

Limited Weldability

Not recommended for fusion welding.

Applications

Aircraft fuselage and wing skins, high-toughness structural parts, bulkheads, critical military components, aerospace fasteners.

Processing & Surface Finish Notes

CNC machining and saw cutting supported; anodizing with sealant advised for corrosion service.

Quality Documents & Inspection

Every order ships with an MTC. SGS third-party test reports available on request. Linsy holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
