6010 aluminum is a heat-treatable 6xxx automotive sheet alloy with magnesium, silicon, and copper. It balances moderate strength with good formability for body panels and structural parts.
Available forms: sheet / plate / coil
Common tempers: O / T4 / T6
Processing support: CNC machining / laser cutting / bending / welding
Quality documents: MTC report with every order
6010 aluminum is a 6xxx-series heat-treatable sheet alloy that adds a little copper to the magnesium-silicon base, giving a good mix of strength, formability, and corrosion resistance. It is most often used as automotive body sheet in the T4 (solution-heat-treated, naturally aged) condition, where it forms readily and then can be paint-baked to higher strength.
| Form | Temper | Dimension range |
|---|---|---|
| Sheet / Plate / Coil | O, T4, T6 | Thickness 0.5-100 mm, width 1000-3000 mm, length 1000-6000 mm (coil available) |
| Form | Temper | Dimension range |
|---|---|---|
| Tube / Bar | T4, T6 | OD or side 6-300 mm, length 1000-6000 mm; availability by inquiry |
Typical composition of 6010 aluminum:
| Element | Composition (%) |
|---|---|
| Si | 0.8-1.2 |
| Fe | 0.50 max |
| Cu | 0.15-0.6 |
| Mn | 0.20-0.8 |
| Mg | 0.60-1.1 |
| Cr | 0.10 max |
| Zn | 0.25 max |
| Ti | 0.10 max |
| Others (each / total) | 0.05 / 0.15 |
| Al | Balance |
| Temper | Tensile (MPa) | Yield (MPa) | Elongation (%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| O | 150-200 | 70-100 | 18-22 |
| T4 | 250-310 | 130-180 | 20-24 |
| T6 | 290-340 | 240-290 | 10-14 |
Values are typical reference ranges for sheet per ASTM B209 / EN 485-2 and depend on thickness.
T4 is the forming condition for body panels: soft enough to deep-draw and stretch, then strengthened by paint-bake aging.
T6 gives maximum strength for structural brackets and parts that are not heavily formed.
O is used where maximum formability is needed before any aging.
6010 forms well in T4, supporting complex automotive outer and inner panels.
Moderate strength after aging, sufficient for non-safety-critical body structure.
Good general resistance; compatible with standard automotive coatings.
Weldable, but as with all 6xxx alloys the weld zone softens; design accordingly.
6010 is supplied mainly as sheet and is formed in T4 then aged (often during paint bake). Welding uses 4043/5356 filler with allowance for HAZ softening. It machines and cuts well in T6.
Linsy Aluminum operates a production base with more than 20 years of experience in rolled and extruded aluminum products across the 1000 to 8000 series. We support buyers with cut-to-size service, CNC machining, laser cutting, and surface finishing (anodizing, polishing, brushing) under one roof.
Every order ships with a mill test certificate (MTC) documenting chemistry and mechanical properties. Our quality system is certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001. Third-party inspection reports (for example SGS) can be arranged on request for specific orders.
We work to ASTM, EN, GB, and JIS specifications and supply customers in Europe, Asia, and other regions. Tell us your form, temper, and dimension requirements and we will return a quotation with lead time.
These articles help with alloy selection, fabrication, and procurement decisions:
6010 is an older body-sheet choice with good formability; 6016 and 6111 are later grades with tuned bake-hardening. Pick based on the OEM spec and forming severity.
6010 is primarily a sheet/plate grade. Welding wire for 6xxx joints is usually 4043 or 5356, not 6010.
T4 for panels that need deep drawing or stretching; T6 for parts that are cut and machined rather than formed.
Minimum order quantities depend on the form and temper. For common sheet, plate, and extrusion sizes we can often accept small lots; custom sizes and tempers are quoted per request. Contact us with your bill of materials for a firm MOQ.
For stock or regularly produced sizes, typical lead time is 10 to 60 days depending on quantity, temper, and any additional processing. Custom or rarely ordered specs may take longer; we confirm the date in the quotation.
Yes. Every shipment includes an MTC reporting the actual chemistry and mechanical results for the supplied lot. SGS or other third-party inspection reports can be arranged when needed.
Yes. We offer cut-to-length, precision sawing, CNC machining, laser cutting, and surface finishing (anodizing, polishing, brushing) so the material arrives closer to your finished part.
We regularly work to ASTM, EN, GB, and JIS specifications. If your project references a specific standard or designation, mention it in the RFQ so we match the requirement.
Send your alloy, temper, form, dimensions, quantity, and required standard. We return a quotation with pricing, lead time, and the inspection documents included.
