Temper Selection Guide

Temper When to use
O Annealed, softest condition for forming; lowest strength.
T6 / T651 Peak strength tempers for general high-stress parts; T651 adds stress relief for improved dimensional stability.
T73 / T7351 Overaged tempers with improved corrosion resistance and reduced quench sensitivity; preferred for thick sections and corrosive environments.

Key Characteristics of 7075 Aluminum

High Strength

7075 is one of the strongest commercial aluminum alloys, with T6/T651 yield strength around 505 MPa.

Corrosion Resistance & Stress Corrosion

Bare 7075 has moderate general corrosion resistance. The T73/T7351 tempers improve resistance to stress-corrosion cracking, especially in thicker sections.

Machinability & Weldability

Machinability is excellent in the T6 condition. Weldability is poor — fusion welding is generally not recommended; mechanical fastening or adhesive bonding is preferred.

Common Applications

  • Aircraft fuselage and wing structures
  • High-stress machine parts and molds
  • Defense and sporting goods
  • Fasteners, fittings, and precision components

Processing & Surface Finish Notes

7075 flat bar can be CNC-machined, cut, and profiled to drawing. Anodizing is possible but offers limited corrosion benefit compared with 6xxx alloys; for corrosive service consider the T73 temper or a protective coating. Fusion welding is not advised — design for mechanical joining.

Quality Documents & Inspection

Every 7075 aluminum order ships with a Mill Test Certificate (EN 10204 3.1 MTC) confirming chemical composition and mechanical properties against the specified temper. In-process inspections cover dimensional tolerance, surface condition, and flatness or straightness as applicable. Third-party inspection and SGS test reports can be arranged on request for project-specific requirements.

7075 Aluminum Flat Bar FAQ

Which temper should I choose?

For maximum strength use T6 or T651. For better corrosion resistance in thick or corrosive sections, choose T73/T7351.

Can 7075 be welded?

Fusion welding of 7075 is generally not recommended due to cracking risk and strength loss. Mechanical fastening or bonding is preferred.

Do you offer custom sizes?

Yes. We cut to length and can machine to drawing. Provide required dimensions and tolerances in your RFQ.

General Ordering FAQ

What is the typical lead time?

Standard stock sizes are usually dispatched within 10–60 days depending on temper, quantity, and any custom processing. Confirm the exact schedule with our sales team when requesting a quote.

Can you supply custom sizes and tempers?

Yes. We cut to length, saw, and CNC-machine to drawing, and can source specific tempers on request. Provide your required dimensions and tolerance in the RFQ.

Do you provide mill certificates?

A Mill Test Certificate (MTC) is included with every order. SGS or other third-party inspection reports can be arranged when needed.

What surface finishes are available?

Common options include mill finish, anodizing, and polishing. Specific finishes should be agreed at the quotation stage.
