2019 aluminum alloy is a heat-treatable 2000 series aluminum alloy primarily alloyed with copper (3.5–4.5%), with additions of manganese (0.4–1.0%) and magnesium (0.4–0.8%). As a Cu-Mg-Mn alloy, it belongs to the same family as 2014 and 2024, offering a balance of high tensile strength, good machinability, and reasonable elevated-temperature capability.
The copper content gives 2019 aluminum significantly higher strength than most 1000 and 3000 series alloys. However, like other 2000 series alloys, its corrosion resistance is lower than that of 5000 and 7000 series alloys, which should be considered in applications where environmental exposure is a factor. Protective surface treatments such as anodizing or cladding are often recommended for corrosive environments.
2019 aluminum is typically supplied in tempers O, T3, T351, T4, T42, and T451. It is used in aerospace structures, automotive components, and high-stress mechanical applications where strength-to-weight ratio is critical.

The following mechanical properties are typical reference values for 2019 aluminum. Actual properties may vary with product form, thickness, and specific heat treatment. Values should be confirmed with the MTC report for each order.
| Temper | Çekme Dayanımı, Nihai (MPa) | Çekme Dayanımı, Akma (MPa) | İçin En İyisi |
|---|---|---|---|
| O (Tavlanmış) | ≤ 220 | ≤ 100 | Maximum formability, cold working |
| T3, T4 | ~420 | ~310 | High strength, solution heat-treated and naturally aged |
| T351, T42, T451 | ~410–430 | ~300–320 | Stress-relieved, good dimensional stability for machining |
Note: The above values are typical reference ranges based on the original source data. Exact mechanical properties for each batch are documented in the MTC report provided with every order.
| Temper | Key Benefit | Tipik Uygulamalar |
|---|---|---|
| O | Maximum formability | Deep drawing, complex forming, bending |
| T3 | High strength after solution heat treatment and cold work | Aerospace skins, structural panels |
| T351 | Stress-relieved for dimensional stability | Precision-machined plate, tooling plates |
| T4 | Çözelti ile ısıl işlem görmüş ve doğal yaşlandırılmış | General high-strength structural parts |
| T42, T451 | Stress-relieved variants of T4 | Machined components requiring stability |
The 3.5–4.5% copper content makes 2019 aluminum significantly stronger than most non-heat-treatable alloys. In T3 and T4 tempers, it achieves tensile strengths up to approximately 420 MPa, making it suitable for high-stress structural applications.
Compared to 7000 series alloys, 2000 series alloys like 2019 retain better strength at elevated temperatures. This makes 2019 aluminum a practical choice for components operating in moderately high-temperature environments.
Due to its copper content, 2019 aluminum has lower corrosion resistance than 5000, 6000, and 7000 series alloys. In corrosive or marine environments, protective measures such as anodizing, painting, or alclad coating are recommended. For applications where corrosion resistance is the primary concern, 5083 or 6061 may be more suitable alternatives.
In the annealed (O) temper, 2019 aluminum offers good formability for bending and cold working. However, formability decreases significantly in T3 and T4 tempers. Welding of 2019 aluminum is generally not recommended due to crack susceptibility in the heat-affected zone. Mechanical fastening or specialized welding processes with appropriate filler selection should be considered, and welding performance should be validated for specific applications.
| Endüstri | Tipik Uygulamalar | Why 2019 Is Used |
|---|---|---|
| Havacılık ve Uzay | Structural skins, fuselage panels, wing components | High strength-to-weight ratio, heat resistance |
| Otomotiv | Structural frames, suspension components, heat shields | Strength at moderate temperatures, machinability |
| General Engineering | Machine components, fixtures, tooling plates | High strength, good machinability in T351/T451 |
| Heavy-Duty Structures | Load-bearing brackets, reinforcement plates | High yield strength, proven performance |
