4032 aluminum is a heat-treatable 4xxx series alloy containing 11–13.5% silicon, giving it a low coefficient of thermal expansion and good high-temperature strength. It is the standard wrought alloy for forged pistons, connecting rods, and other components that must hold dimension under heat and load. Linsy supplies 4032 in forged billet, bar, sheet, and tube — all backed by mill test certificates.

4032 aluminum (EN AW-4032 / UNS A94032) is a silicon-rich 4xxx series wrought alloy. Its defining feature is a low coefficient of thermal expansion combined with retained strength at elevated temperatures — properties that make it the preferred material for forged internal-combustion engine pistons.
Unlike most 4xxx series alloys that are used primarily as welding filler, 4032 is a structural wrought alloy. The high silicon content (11–13.5%) controls thermal growth, while copper, magnesium, and nickel additions build strength during the T6 heat treatment. It is supplied almost exclusively in T6 or T651 temper.
Forged billet and extruded bar are the primary forms of 4032 alloy, used for pistons, connecting rods, and precision-machined high-temperature parts. Supplied in T6 / T651 temper.

Solution heat-treated and artificially aged. T6 delivers the full strength and hardness of 4032, making it the standard temper for forged pistons and connecting rods.
Solution heat-treated, stress-relieved by stretching, then artificially aged. T651 offers the same strength as T6 with lower residual stress — preferred for thick sections and precision-machined parts where dimensional stability matters.
| Temper | İçin En İyisi | Key Advantage |
|---|---|---|
| T6 | Forged pistons, rods, high-heat parts | Maximum as-heat-treated strength |
| T651 | Precision-machined thick sections | Lower residual stress, less distortion |
The 11–13.5% silicon content gives 4032 a coefficient of thermal expansion roughly 60–70% that of common 6xxx or 7xxx alloys. This keeps piston-to-bore clearance stable across the engine’s operating temperature range — the single most important property for forged pistons.
4032 retains useful strength at temperatures where many aluminum alloys soften. It performs reliably in the 150–250°C range typical of piston crowns and turbocharger-adjacent components.
The dispersed silicon particles provide good sliding-wear resistance, helping piston skirts survive against cylinder walls without excessive scoring.
4032 has moderate corrosion resistance. The high silicon content reduces resistance to pitting and seawater exposure compared with 5xxx/6xxx alloys. In engine applications it is typically protected by oil films, coatings, or integral design — not by inherent alloy corrosion resistance.
4032 is specified wherever thermal stability and wear resistance are both required:

4032 is the standard wrought alloy for forged engine pistons and connecting rods. Its low thermal expansion and retained high-temperature strength keep clearances stable under heat and load. It is also used for turbocharger-adjacent parts and precision fixtures that must hold dimension during thermal cycling.
No. 4032 is a wrought (forged/extruded) alloy. Cast pistons are typically made from 3xx series casting alloys (e.g. 332, 336). 4032 is forged, not cast — this distinction matters for both properties and procurement.
No. 4032 is a base metal, not a filler alloy. The common 4xxx welding fillers are 4043 and 4045 (lower silicon) or 4145 (higher temperature). If you need to join 4032, select the filler based on service temperature and consult a welding procedure.
Both are forged piston alloys with low expansion. 2618 (Cu/Mg/Ni) offers higher temperature capability and is common in aerospace/racing; 4032 (high Si) gives better wear resistance and lower cost for high-volume performance pistons. The choice depends on temperature, load, and budget.
Anodizing is possible but produces a grey, uneven look because of the silicon content. Hard anodizing (Type III) is sometimes applied to wear surfaces; decorative bright anodizing is not typical for 4032.
MOQ depends on product form. Forged billet typically has a higher MOQ than bar. Contact Linsy for specific details.
