5454 is a non-heat-treatable 5xxx alloy containing about 2.7 percent magnesium with manganese. It offers higher strength than 3003 or 5052 while keeping very good corrosion resistance, including resistance to stress corrosion cracking. Use H32 or H34 for formed and welded parts that need moderate strength. H111 and H112 are suited to structural and pressure components, while O provides the best formability for deep drawing or bending.
5454 resists seawater and many chemicals well and is not prone to stress corrosion cracking in normal service.
It welds readily with MIG and TIG using 5xxx fillers, with little loss of corrosion resistance in the weld zone.
