5052 aluminum is a non-heat-treatable 5xxx series alloy primarily alloyed with magnesium (2.2–2.8%) and a small amount of chromium (0.15–0.35%). It is one of the most widely used marine-grade aluminum alloys, valued for outstanding corrosion resistance in saltwater and chemical environments, excellent weldability, and good formability. Unlike 6xxx series alloys such as 6061, 5052 cannot be strengthened by heat treatment; instead, it is strengthened through strain hardening (cold work), producing tempers such as H32 and H34.
In round tube form, 5052 is commonly supplied in O (annealed), H32, and H34 tempers. The combination of moderate strength, high fatigue resistance, and superior corrosion resistance makes 5052 aluminum round tubes a preferred choice for marine, transportation, and structural applications where exposure to harsh environments is a concern.
Linsy supplies 5052 aluminum round tubes in seamless and welded configurations, with custom outer diameters, wall thicknesses, and lengths available to meet project-specific requirements. Below are the standard ranges; dimensions outside these ranges can be produced upon request.
Seamless 5052 round tubes are produced by extrusion or drawing, offering uniform wall thickness and excellent pressure resistance. They are ideal for hydraulic lines, marine fittings, and precision structural applications.
| Temperamento | Diametro esterno (mm) | Spessore della parete (mm) | Lunghezza (mm) |
|---|---|---|---|
| O, H32, H34 | 6 – 120 | 0.5 – 10 | 1,000 – 6,000 |
| Custom dimensions available upon request | |||
Welded 5052 round tubes are formed from rolled plate or sheet and welded along the seam. They offer a cost-effective solution for larger diameters and are suitable for general structural, architectural, and non-pressure applications.
| Temperamento | Diametro esterno (mm) | Spessore della parete (mm) | Lunghezza (mm) |
|---|---|---|---|
| O, H32, H34 | 20 – 300 | 1.0 – 15 | 1,000 – 6,000 |

Note: The above values are typical reference values based on ASTM standard data. Actual mechanical properties should be confirmed with the mill test certificate (MTC) for each production batch.
Choosing the right temper depends on the balance between formability and strength required for your application:
If your application involves significant bending or forming, O or H32 temper is recommended. For maximum strength with minimal post-forming, H34 is the preferred option.
5052 aluminum exhibits outstanding resistance to corrosion, particularly in marine and saltwater environments. The magnesium content provides a protective oxide layer that performs significantly better than 2xxx or 7xxx series alloys in chloride-containing environments. This makes 5052 round tubes ideal for boat components, dock hardware, and coastal structures.
5052 is readily welded using MIG (GMAW) and TIG (GTAW) processes with 5356 or 5554 filler wire. Unlike 6xxx series alloys, 5052 does not suffer from solidification cracking in most welding conditions. Welded joints typically retain 80–90% of the base metal strength in the annealed condition.
As a non-heat-treatable alloy, 5052 can be cold-formed into complex shapes without cracking. In the O temper, it offers excellent bendability and can be readily drawn, spun, or roll-formed. Even in H32 and H34 tempers, 5052 maintains good formability compared to other medium-strength aluminum alloys.
With a tensile strength range of 195–260 MPa depending on temper, 5052 provides moderate strength suitable for many structural and non-critical load-bearing applications. For higher strength requirements, 6061-T6 or 5083 may be more appropriate alternatives.
5052 aluminum demonstrates good fatigue resistance, making it suitable for applications subject to cyclic loading, such as vehicle frames and vibration-exposed structures. The strain-hardened tempers (H32, H34) offer improved fatigue performance over the annealed condition.

5052 round tubes are commonly supplied in O (annealed), H32 (quarter-hard), and H34 (half-hard) tempers. H32 is the most popular for general-purpose applications, while O is preferred when maximum formability is needed.
Yes. 5052 has excellent weldability using MIG (GMAW) and TIG (GTAW) processes. Recommended filler wires include 5356 and 5554. The alloy is highly resistant to solidification cracking, making it one of the most weldable aluminum alloys available.
H32 is a quarter-hard temper with lower strength but better formability (UTS ~230 MPa, elongation ~12%). H34 is a half-hard temper with higher strength but reduced formability (UTS ~260 MPa, elongation ~10%). Choose H32 for applications requiring bending or forming; choose H34 for maximum strength.
