6005 aluminium is a heat-treatable 6xxx extrusion alloy with magnesium and silicon. It offers good medium strength, weldability, and excellent extrudability for structural and transport applications.

6005 aluminium is a 6xxx-series, heat-treatable alloy built on the magnesium-silicide (Mg2Si) strengthening system. With roughly 0.5% magnesium and 0.6-0.9% silicon, it sits between 6063 (easier, weaker) and 6061 (stronger, less extrudable) in character.
It extrudes well, welds readily, and reaches useful strength after aging, which is why it is common for structural frames, railings, and transport components.
| Formulier | Temper | Dimension range |
|---|---|---|
| Profile / Tube / Bar | T1, T4, T5, T6 | OD or side 6-400 mm, wall 0.5-40 mm, length 1000-6000 mm; profiles to drawing |
| Formulier | Temper | Dimension range |
|---|---|---|
| Sheet / Plate | T4, T6 | Thickness 0.5-150 mm, width 1000-3000 mm, length 1000-6000 mm |
Typical composition of 6005 aluminum:
| Element | Samenstelling (%) |
|---|---|
| Si | 0.6-0.9 |
| Fe | 0.35 max |
| Cu | 0,10 max |
| Mn | 0,10 max |
| Mg | 0.40-0.6 |
| Cr | 0,10 max |
| Zn | 0,10 max |
| Ti | 0,10 max |
| Others (each / total) | 0.05 / 0.15 |
| Al | Saldo |
| Temper | Tensile (MPa) | Yield (MPa) | Rek (%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| T1 | 160 min | 90 min | 12 min |
| T4 | 190 min | 110 min | 14 min |
| T5 | 200 min | 120 min | 10 min |
| T6 | 230 min | 190 min | 8 min |
Values are typical minimums for extruded sections per EN 755-2 and vary with section thickness.
T5 is the common choice for extruded shapes: a fast cooled-and-aged condition giving good strength with efficient production.
T6 provides the highest strength for structural parts where load matters more than formability.
T4 is used when parts are formed or welded before final aging.
6005 flows well in extrusion, allowing complex profiles at reasonable press speeds.
Medium strength after aging suits structural frames without the cost of 6061.
Good general corrosion resistance; anodizing further improves surface durability.
Readily welded by MIG/TIG, though the heat-affected zone softens as with all 6xxx alloys.
6005 welds with 4043 or 5356 filler; note the heat-affected zone loses some strength, so design for the welded condition where needed. It anodizes cleanly and machines well in T5/T6. Forming is best done in T4 before aging.
Linsy Aluminum operates a production base with more than 20 years of experience in rolled and extruded aluminum products across the 1000 to 8000 series. We support buyers with cut-to-size service, CNC machining, laser cutting, and surface finishing (anodizing, polishing, brushing) under one roof.
Every order ships with a mill test certificate (MTC) documenting chemistry and mechanical properties. Our quality system is certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001. Third-party inspection reports (for example SGS) can be arranged on request for specific orders.
We work to ASTM, EN, GB, and JIS specifications and supply customers in Europe, Asia, and other regions. Tell us your form, temper, and dimension requirements and we will return a quotation with lead time.
These articles help with alloy selection, fabrication, and procurement decisions:
6061 is stronger and more versatile; 6005 extrudes more easily and is often chosen for complex profiles and structural frames where extreme strength is not required.
Yes. Its low impurity content gives a consistent anodized finish suitable for architectural and decorative use.
4043 or 5356 filler is typical, depending on the service environment and colour-match needs.
Minimum order quantities depend on the form and temper. For common sheet, plate, and extrusion sizes we can often accept small lots; custom sizes and tempers are quoted per request. Contact us with your bill of materials for a firm MOQ.
For stock or regularly produced sizes, typical lead time is 10 to 60 days depending on quantity, temper, and any additional processing. Custom or rarely ordered specs may take longer; we confirm the date in the quotation.
Yes. Every shipment includes an MTC reporting the actual chemistry and mechanical results for the supplied lot. SGS or other third-party inspection reports can be arranged when needed.
Yes. We offer cut-to-length, precision sawing, CNC machining, laser cutting, and surface finishing (anodizing, polishing, brushing) so the material arrives closer to your finished part.
We regularly work to ASTM, EN, GB, and JIS specifications. If your project references a specific standard or designation, mention it in the RFQ so we match the requirement.
Send your alloy, temper, form, dimensions, quantity, and required standard. We return a quotation with pricing, lead time, and the inspection documents included.
