What Is 7050 Aluminum?

7050 aluminum is a high-strength 7xxx series alloy built around zinc, magnesium, and copper, with zirconium for grain control. It is closely related to 7075 but performs better in thick sections because it is less sensitive to quench rate, so strength is retained deeper into the plate. The T7451 temper gives strong resistance to exfoliation and stress-corrosion cracking, which is why 7050 is a workhorse for aerospace structures such as bulkheads, fuselage frames, and wing skins.
