What Is 6005 Aluminum?

Aluminio 6005 is a 6xxx-series, heat-treatable alloy built on the magnesium-silicide (Mg2Si) strengthening system. With roughly 0.5% magnesium and 0.6-0.9% silicon, it sits between 6063 (easier, weaker) and 6061 (stronger, less extrudable) in character.

It extrudes well, welds readily, and reaches useful strength after aging, which is why it is common for structural frames, railings, and transport components.

T1 160 min 90 min 12 min
T4 190 min 110 min 14 min

Values are typical minimums for extruded sections per EN 755-2 and vary with section thickness.

Guía para la selección del temple

T5 is the common choice for extruded shapes: a fast cooled-and-aged condition giving good strength with efficient production.

T6 provides the highest strength for structural parts where load matters more than formability.

T4 is used when parts are formed or welded before final aging.

Características principales

Extrudabilidad

6005 flows well in extrusion, allowing complex profiles at reasonable press speeds.

Strength-to-weight

Medium strength after aging suits structural frames without the cost of 6061.

Resistencia a la corrosión

Good general corrosion resistance; anodizing further improves surface durability.

Soldabilidad

Readily welded by MIG/TIG, though the heat-affected zone softens as with all 6xxx alloys.

Aplicaciones

  • Structural extrusions and frameworks
  • Handrails, railings, and balustrades
  • Truck, trailer, and container frames
  • Solar panel mounting structures
  • Automotive and railway structural components
  • Marine and architectural profiles

Notas sobre el procesamiento y el acabado superficial

6005 welds with 4043 or 5356 filler; note the heat-affected zone loses some strength, so design for the welded condition where needed. It anodizes cleanly and machines well in T5/T6. Forming is best done in T4 before aging.

Documentación de calidad e inspección

  • Certificado de Ensayo de Laminación (MTC): supplied with every order, reporting actual chemistry and mechanical properties of the delivered lot.
  • Dimension and visual inspection: size, flatness, surface, and edge condition are checked against the agreed specification.
  • Third-party inspection: SGS or equivalent reports can be arranged on request for specific orders.
  • Certificaciones: ISO 9001 (quality), ISO 14001 (environment), ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety).

6005 Aluminum FAQ

6005 vs 6061 – what is the difference?

6061 is stronger and more versatile; 6005 extrudes more easily and is often chosen for complex profiles and structural frames where extreme strength is not required.

Is 6005 good for anodizing?

Yes. Its low impurity content gives a consistent anodized finish suitable for architectural and decorative use.

Which filler for welding 6005?

4043 or 5356 filler is typical, depending on the service environment and colour-match needs.

Preguntas frecuentes generales sobre pedidos

¿Cuál es la cantidad mínima de pedido?

Minimum order quantities depend on the form and temper. For common sheet, plate, and extrusion sizes we can often accept small lots; custom sizes and tempers are quoted per request. Contact us with your bill of materials for a firm MOQ.

What lead time can I expect?

For stock or regularly produced sizes, typical lead time is 10 to 60 days depending on quantity, temper, and any additional processing. Custom or rarely ordered specs may take longer; we confirm the date in the quotation.

¿Proporcionan certificados de ensayo de molino?

Yes. Every shipment includes an MTC reporting the actual chemistry and mechanical results for the supplied lot. SGS or other third-party inspection reports can be arranged when needed.

Can you cut to size or add processing?

Yes. We offer cut-to-length, precision sawing, CNC machining, laser cutting, and surface finishing (anodizing, polishing, brushing) so the material arrives closer to your finished part.

Which standards do you supply to?

We regularly work to ASTM, EN, GB, and JIS specifications. If your project references a specific standard or designation, mention it in the RFQ so we match the requirement.

¿Cómo solicito un presupuesto?

Send your alloy, temper, form, dimensions, quantity, and required standard. We return a quotation with pricing, lead time, and the inspection documents included.
