Shear strength for T6 is around 240 MPa.
T4 is solution heat treated and naturally aged, giving good formability right after heat treatment — useful when parts are formed before final aging. T6 / T651 are the aged tempers that deliver the higher strength needed for structural members. Choose T6/T651 for load-bearing extrusions and T4 where forming is required after heat treatment.
With its copper and manganese content, 6066 reaches higher strength than common 6061/6063 while staying extrudable.
It keeps good general corrosion resistance for structural use, though less than the lower-copper 6000-series alloys in some environments.
6066 forms well in the T4 condition and welds with standard methods; welded zones soften locally versus the base temper.
6066 machines and forms well, especially in T4 before aging. It accepts anodizing and polishing — confirm finish and tolerance needs before production. Welding is possible with standard processes, but the heat-affected zone softens; design around it or specify post-weld treatment where strength is critical.
