6061 is one of the most widely used heat-treatable aluminum alloys. In sheet form it offers an excellent balance of strength, weldability, and corrosion resistance, which makes it suitable for both fabricated structures and machined parts. The T6 temper delivers the highest strength, while O and T4 are preferred when forming or welding come first.
6061 sheet and plate are supplied in thicknesses from 0.5 mm up to 150 mm, with widths of 1000 – 3000 mm and lengths of 1000 – 6000 mm. Thin gauge is typically supplied in O or T6; thicker plate is commonly T651 (stress-relieved by stretching).

6061-T6 reaches about 310 MPa tensile strength at roughly one-third the density of steel, giving a strong strength-to-weight ratio for transport and structural parts.
6061 welds well with TIG and MIG processes. Welded zones lose some strength locally, so design allowances are common for load-bearing joints.
Good general corrosion resistance; T6 performs well in atmospheric and mild industrial environments. Anodizing further improves surface protection.
