What Is 5457 Aluminum?

5457 is a non-heat-treatable 5xxx alloy with low magnesium (about 1 percent) and manganese, engineered for bright-anodized decorative trim. It offers good strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and a high-quality bright finish after anodizing, which makes it ideal for automotive and architectural trim.

Available 5457 Aluminum Products

Linsy supplies 5457 mainly as sheet and coil for bright trim, with bar, tube, and profiles available on request. The tempers most commonly supplied are O, H25, and H28. Dimensions below are typical ranges; other sizes can be discussed on request.

Sheet and Coil

5457 is supplied primarily as thin-gauge sheet and coil in thicknesses from 0.3 mm to 4 mm, widths up to 2000 mm, and lengths up to 6000 mm or cut to size. O and H25 are the common trim tempers.

Assiette

Thick plate is not a standard 5457 product; thin rolled coil and sheet are the typical forms. Other gauges can be discussed on request.

Bar (Round, Flat, Square)

Round, flat, and square bars can be produced in diameters or side lengths from 6 mm to 200 mm, normally in O or H25.

Tube and Pipe

5457 tube can be supplied in outer diameters from 6 mm to 200 mm with wall thicknesses from 0.5 mm to 20 mm, usually in O or H25 temper.

Extruded Profile

Extruded and drawn profiles for trim are available on request.

Propriétés mécaniques selon le traitement thermique

The values below are typical for rolled and extruded products and should be confirmed against the mill test certificate for the specific temper and thickness ordered.

Tempérer Résistance à la traction (MPa) Limite d'élasticité (MPa) Élongation (%)
O 130 – 180 55 min 18
H25 200 – 240 170 min 8
H28 230 – 270 200 min 5

Guide de sélection des tempéraments

Use O or H25 where the part must be formed before bright anodizing; H28 gives higher strength for decorative parts that are not heavily formed. 5457 is not heat-treatable, so no T tempers apply.

Caractéristiques principales

Bright anodizing

5457 was developed for a high-quality, reflective bright-anodized finish, its main reason for selection.

Résistance à la corrosion

Corrosion behavior is good for interior and architectural exposure.

Formabilité

In O and H25 tempers it forms and bends well for trim and cladding.

La force

Strength is moderate; it is chosen for appearance rather than load-bearing duty.

Applications

  • Automotive bright trim and moldings
  • Architectural trim and decorative cladding
  • Garnitures pour appareils et meubles
  • Decorative panels and nameplates
  • Consumer product housings

Remarques concernant le traitement et la finition de surface

5457 is most often supplied for bright anodizing and polishing; surface cleanliness before finish is important. It can be cut, bent, and CNC machined. It is non-heat-treatable, so no solution heat treatment is involved.

Documents relatifs à la qualité et contrôle qualité

Linsy provides a mill test certificate (MTC) with every shipment, documenting chemical composition and mechanical properties per EN 10204 3.1 where applicable. Third-party inspection and SGS material test reports can be arranged on request. Production is managed under ISO 9001 (quality), ISO 14001 (environment), and ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety) systems.

Why Choose Linsy for 5457

Linsy Aluminum operates a production and processing base with over 20 years of experience across the 1xxx to 8xxx aluminum series. For 5457, we supply sheet, plate, bar, tube, and extruded profiles with optional CNC machining, laser cutting, and surface finishing such as anodizing and polishing. Every order is shipped with a mill test certificate (MTC), and production follows ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 management systems. 5457 Aluminum FAQ

Is 5457 heat-treatable?

No. 5457 is a non-heat-treatable 5xxx alloy; its properties come from strain hardening (O, H25, H28). The source often lists a solution-heat-treated temper in error, which does not apply to this grade.

Why is 5457 used for bright trim?

Its low magnesium content allows a high-quality, reflective bright-anodized finish that higher-magnesium grades cannot match.

How does 5457 differ from 5657?

Both are low-magnesium bright-anodizing grades; 5657 is typically used for architectural anodized sheet while 5457 is favored for formed automotive trim. Confirm the exact spec with our team.

Can 5457 be welded?

It can be welded, but for decorative trim mechanical joining or adhesive bonding is more common to preserve the finish.

FAQ générale sur les commandes

Quelle est la quantité minimale de commande ?

MOQs depend on form and temper. Standard stock items often start from a few hundred kilograms, while custom sizes are quoted per inquiry.

What are typical lead times?

Standard specifications are usually available within 10 to 60 days. Custom tempers or dimensions may require longer; we confirm a date with each quotation.

Which certificates do you provide?

A mill test certificate (MTC) is included with every order. Production carries ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 system certifications, and SGS or third-party test reports can be supplied on request.

Can you supply custom sizes and tempers?

Yes. Linsy supports cut-to-size, custom dimensions, and selected tempers. Share your drawing or specification for a quote.

How are materials packed and shipped?

Products are packed to prevent surface damage in transit, with export-standard seaworthy packaging available.
