5052 aluminum flat bar is a non-heat-treatable 5xxx series alloy with 4.0–4.9% magnesium, offering excellent corrosion resistance in marine and chemical environments plus good formability and weldability. It is commonly supplied in H32 and H34 tempers for brackets, marine hardware, and fabricated structures. Linsy supplies 5052 flat bar cut-to-length — every order backed by a mill test certificate.

5052 is a non-heat-treatable 5xxx series alloy, strengthened by magnesium (4.0–4.9%) and a small chromium addition (0.05–0.25%) rather than by heat treatment. As a flat bar it is supplied in strain-hardened tempers — most commonly H32 (quarter-hard) and H34 (half-hard) — which provide a useful strength level while keeping good formability.
5052 is one of the most widely used marine-grade aluminum alloys. Its corrosion resistance in saltwater and chemical environments is superior to that of 6xxx and 2xxx series alloys, which is why it appears in boat hulls, fuel tanks, and offshore structures. Unlike heat-treatable alloys, 5052 cannot be hardened by aging — its properties come from cold work (the H tempers).
Flat bar is supplied by cross-section (thickness × width) and length. H32 and H34 are the standard tempers for flat bar.

Fully soft, maximum formability and ductility. Used where deep drawing or severe bending is required and strength is secondary.
The most common flat-bar temper. H32 offers a good balance of strength (~210–260 MPa tensile) and formability — it bends cleanly for most fabricated brackets and frames. Recommended when moderate strength is needed with easy forming.
Higher strength (~240–285 MPa tensile) with somewhat reduced formability. Used where stiffness and load capacity matter more than bend radius. Heavier sections and structural supports are typical H34 applications.
| Temperament | Najlepsze dla | Key Advantage |
|---|---|---|
| O | Deep-drawn or severely formed parts | Maximum ductility |
| H32 | Brackets, frames, general fabrication | Strength + good formability |
| H34 | Structural supports, stiffeners | Higher strength, still formable |
5052’s high magnesium content gives it the best general and saltwater corrosion resistance of the common wrought alloys (well above 6061 or 2024). It is the default choice for marine and chemical-processing hardware.
In O and H32 tempers, 5052 bends and forms readily. Even H34 can be formed with reasonable radii. This makes it ideal for fabricated structures, enclosures, and brackets.
5052 welds well by TIG/MIG using 5356 filler (or 5183 for higher strength). Welded joints retain most of the parent corrosion resistance — important for marine structures.
5052 is not a high-strength structural alloy. Its tensile strength (210–285 MPa depending on temper) suits it to light structural and fabricated parts, not heavily loaded members. For higher strength, consider 5083 or 6061.

Learn more about 5052 and alloy selection:
Yes. 5052 has excellent saltwater corrosion resistance — it is one of the standard marine-grade alloys. It is widely used for boat hardware, brackets, and fuel tank components. For highest-strength marine plate, 5083 is sometimes chosen instead.
Both are strain-hardened tempers of 5052. H32 (quarter-hard) has lower strength (~210–260 MPa tensile) and better formability; H34 (half-hard) is stronger (~240–285 MPa) with somewhat less bend flexibility. Choose H32 for easy forming, H34 for stiffer parts.
Yes. 5052 welds well with 5356 (or 5183) filler wire. It retains good corrosion resistance in the welded zone, which is why it is common in marine fabrication.
No. 5052 is a non-heat-treatable 5xxx alloy. Its strength comes from cold work (the H tempers), not from heat treatment. You cannot harden it by aging.
5356 is the standard filler for 5052. For higher-strength joints (e.g. thicker plate), 5183 may be specified. Avoid using 4xxx silicon fillers if maximum corrosion resistance is required.
